roadside vendors selling fresh cut pineapple, papaya, bananas, and other tropical fruits
in season. (Insider tip: There is a variety of banana called apple banana. It
is small and tastes very delicious. If you find some, try one.) The Hawaiian Islands are
the home to rare animals that may cross the road. Please drive cautiously, especially at
night. Signs are posted in areas where certain animals cross frequently. As mentioned
above driving at night can be dangerous. Below is a distance table to assist you in
knowing how far it is between different locations and how long it takes to get there.

VOLCANO WINERY is tucked between 2 of Hawaiis
active volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kilauea, and is not an ordinary winery. It was started in
1986 and their original tropical fruit-blended wines, Symphony wines, and all-honey wine
set them apart in their own category. The vineyard is located at 4,000 feet above sea
level and produces over 14 acres of Symphony grapes. The winery likes to experiment with
exotic local fruits along with grapes to produce wines unlike any other and a new category
of wines was created because of these fruit blended wines which are now know as BATF.

WAIPIO VALLEY LOOKOUT is a stop right at the entrance to a very beautiful valley. The decent
into the valley is extremely steep and requires a four wheel drive vehicle. If you do not
have the proper vehicle you can take a 4X4 tour of the valley with pick up at the valley
entrance. The lookout is a beautiful place for a scenic stop. Waterfalls are visible
across the valley and a black sand beach where the lush valley rain forest meets the sea.
The valley was and is a very scared place for the Hawaiian people. Once only chiefs were
allowed in the valley because it was believed to hold special powers, spirits, and wisdom.
The valley is located on the North side of the island. Head north on Highway 19 from any
direction. Look for signs for Waipio Valley on highway 240. Follow Highway 240 to the end.
