A LUAU is an evening long event. Some have games and crafts, and cultural exhibits in addition to the dinner and show. They all feature a Hawaiian buffet and an entertaining Polynesian review. There are several to choose from. Some are an all day affair, use your time in the islands wisely. Normally 5-9pm. The prices range roughly from $45-$75 per person. Many display the removal of the Kalua pig from the imu, underground oven, where the pig was cooking for a day. Food served at most luaus include tender pig, teriyaki beef, mahi-mahi fish, chicken longrice (it looks like bait, but it's rice noodles in chicken broth with chicken pieces), white rice, poi, sweet potato, rolls, pineapple, and either coconut cake or haupia which is coconut pudding. Don’t eat too much coconut. (It’s a natural laxative.) Enjoy pineapple and papaya after meals to assist with digestion.
