ATLANTIS SUBMARINE has large glass portholes that allow you to enjoy a SCUBA diver's view. The submarine submerges and navigates past a sunken airplane, boat, and cement block pyramids that are alive with colorful tropical fish, eels, spotted eagle rays, sharks, turtles, and live coral reef. Tours start at about $81 per adult, $41 per child. Call 808 973-9811 for current rates, more information and reservations.

Lani Kai Beach

There are no private BEACHES in the Hawaiian Islands and there are hundreds of miles of beach just on the island of Oahu. Catch some rays, swim in the ocean, or just relax at the beaches on different parts of the island for a unique experience each time. Popular beaches around Oahu are:
ALA MOANA BEACH PARK/MAGIC ISLAND
is a 76-acre park on the outskirts of Waikiki. It is a great place for swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, picnicking, and for watching the sun set. Restrooms, food, and lifeguards available. Located across from Ala Moana Shopping Center on Ala Moana Blvd.
EHUKAI BEACH is where the famous Bonzai Pipeline is located. During winter months the wave break here creates amazing tubes which surfers LOVE to surf! It is an amazing thing to watch and experience. Restrooms and lifeguards available. Located on the north shore along Kamehameha Highway across from Sunset Beach Elementary School.
This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.
HALEIWA BEACH PARK is the location where Baywatch Hawaii was filmed and is great for sunbathing, surfing, and snorkeling. Restrooms available. Located on the North Shore in the town of Haleiwa along Haleiwa Road.
This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.
HALONA BAY
is also known as the From Here To Eternity Beach. This is where the love scene from the movie From Here to Eternity was filmed. There is excellent wave jumping and OK snorkeling in the cove but the beach is never really crowded. If your lucky you will see one of the resident Honu (endangered Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle). Be conscious of your surroundings when in the water. The waves crash against the sides of the narrow bay producing very powerful waves. Located not far past the driveway entrance to Hanauma Bay, to the right of the blowhole near Sandy Beach. Park at the blowhole lookout and follow the path down at the roadside entrance. No lifeguard, bathrooms, showers, or food available. Halona Bay is located on the Windward shore on the Kalanianaole Highway, to the right of the lookout at the Halona Blowhole .
HANAUMA BAY is a popular place for snorkeling because it is a marine preserve but it is also a great place to just enjoy relaxing day at the beach. Located on the Windward shore on the Kalanianaole Highway.
KAILUA BEACH PARK has soft powdery white sand and is hardly ever crowded during the week. This beach is popular for body surfing, boogie boarding, wind surfing, kitesailing, and kayaking because there is always a gentle breeze blowing and small waves. Located on the Windward shore at the end of Kailua Road. Continue straight through the intersection of Kailua Road and Kalaheo Street to enter the parking lot for Kailua Beach Park.
KUALOA BEACH PARK is a great place to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. The beach is never crowded and the water is calm and warm. There isn’t much for reef in this area so you won’t see many fish if you plan to snorkel. The park has a beautiful back drop of the Kualoa Mountains. Bring snacks and beverages, there are no food vendors at the park or close by. Restrooms and showers available. This area was considered very sacred by the ancient Hawaiians. Whalebones used to wash up on the shore here and were very valuable tools and used as jewelry. This park is located on the Windward shore along the Kamehameha Highway, about an hour drive from Waikiki.
LANI KAI BEACH yearly receives the honor of being voted one of the best beach in the world. It is not as easy to find as the other beaches but this hidden gem is worth the quest. The view is breath taking, there is great snorkeling in this area, and there are typically no other people on the beach, especially on weekdays. Lani Kai is located in a high scale neighborhood among multi million dollar mansions and is just past Kailua Beach Park. From Kailua Beach Park continue onto Kawailoa Road to Mokulua Drive. There is a large sign letting you know when you've entered Lani Kai. The street is a one way street looping around the Lani Kai community. Follow the street until you are heading back around and are next to the ocean. There is no parking lot or signs marking the beach. Parking is along the side of the road and there are public walkway accesses to the beach every few houses. Only use the public accesses to get to the beach, do not trespass through private property. There are no lifeguards, food, or restrooms.
MAKAHA BEACHES are hidden gems ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. This area is not frequently visited by tourists and offers a beautiful stretch of beaches and amazing scenic views. Located on the Leeward shore take the H1 to the very end where it will turn into route 93. Makaha beach park is located at the very end of route 93 but there are also many other beaches along the roadside that are also great options. This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.
SUNSET BEACH is a popular for surfing in the winter and snorkeling in the summer. Located on the North shore along the Kamehameha Highway between Waimea Falls Park town and Turtle Bay Hilton. This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.
WAIKIKI BEACH is excellent for swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, catamaran and outrigger canoe rides, and watching the sun set. Restrooms, food, and lifeguards available. Located on the South shore along Kalakaua Avenue.
This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.
WAIMEA BAY is great for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and snorkeling. During the winter months the waves have reached in excess of 40 feet and is the location of the largest wave ever recorded being surfed in the world. Restrooms, food, and lifeguards available.
Located on the North shore along the Kamehameha Highway across from  Waimea Falls Park. This is a high theft area. Do not leave valuables in the car or unattended at the beach.

Shorebreak can be dangerous like this one at Waimea Bay so mind posted warnings and NEVER turn your back on the ocean!

BEACH CHAIR AND UMBRELLA RENTALS are available along Waikiki Beach areas on the beach side of hotels along with other ocean activity supplies (snorkel gear, surf boards, water bikes, kayaks). Chair with umbrella rentals can range about $35 per day.

BODY BOARDING in Waikiki is easy and fun, even for a beginner. The best waves to learn on are 1-3 feet, typical Waikiki Beach surf. During the summer there is a bump in the waves off Waikiki making boarding more challenging, but lots of fun. Equipment rentals are less than $25 per day. Note: Wear a Tshirt so your board doesn’t rub against your chest leaving a rash. Also, you must wear the flippers when boarding to be able to catch a wave. If the flippers rub against your feet, possibly leaving blisters, wear socks with them into the water.

SHARK CLOSE ENCOUNTER takes you by boat from the North Shore of Oahu out about four miles off shore where sharks are frequently seen. White tip reef sharks are one of the most common sharks seen in this area with the sharks sighted ranging from five to fifteen feet in length. After putting on snorkel equipment adventurers enter a shark cage that is attached to the back of the boat and get a close but safe encounter with the most fierce creatures of the ocean. Sharks sightings can also be done from the boat but do not offer quite the same experience. Prices are about $105 per adult and about $70 per child. If you need transportation to and from Waikiki add about $40 per person. Typically two people can fit comfortably in the cage at the same time with a possibility of room for up to four people depending on sea conditions. It is recommended you bring an underwater camera to capture memories of your adventure.

SNORKELING allows you to enter into the amazing world of the ocean and explore the incredible creatures that live in it. Some find snorkeling a bit scary at first because it is weird to have your face under water and still be able to breath. It is very easy to get used to and opens a whole new world to you! Bring your own equipment or rent for under $10 for a 24hr rental. Be sure to make a disposable underwater camera part of your equipment!!! Do not feed the fish, human food is not healthy to ocean creatures and it also causes the fish to frenzy. The best way to see them is to just float and observe them doing what they naturally do. There is A LOT to see! Be a good reef visitor by not touching or taking marine life. Watch where your hands and fins are so you do not step on corals (live reef building animals) or other animals. Always observe any warnings/cautions posted by lifeguards. WEAR WATERPROOF SUN SCREEN ABOVE 15 SPF!!!! If your lotion is not waterproof you will burn badly! The sun is strongest 11-3. Limit your time in the direct sun to a 2 hour max.

A sunken volcano known as HANAUMA BAY is the most popular place to go snorkeling. It is a marine preserve packed with sea life. You only need to go ankle deep to see fish. This is a great place for fish viewing even if you do not snorkel, or even swim. Much of the coral reef is dead due to ignorant reef visitors who have damaged it. Please DO NOT walk on the reef!! Arrive before 10 AM for parking. Parking is $1 entry to park is $3 per person. Snorkel gear rentals, showers, bathrooms, and an overpriced snack bar are available in park. There are trolleys available for $0.75 per person to cart you and your gear down or up the steep hill that leads from the parking area to the beach. It is worth it for the ride up. Driving instructions: From Waikiki head down Kalakaua Avenue going past Kapiolani Park. Turn right onto Diamond Head Road. Near the end of this road there will be a sign directing you to turn left to get to Route 72 East and Hanauma Bay. Stay on Route 72 for several miles, there will be a sign on the right at the park's entrance. Follow the signs to the bay. The only public bus that will get you there is bus 22 from Kuhio Avenue. It drops you off at the top of the driveway into the park and you will have to walk about ¼ mile to the entrance gate to the park. There are other great scenic spots to check out just past Hanauma Bay too. ( The Blow Hole, Sandy Beach, and Makapuu lookout)
This activity receives our personal recommendation!A great snorkeling spot in WAIKIKI is 'Kuhio Beach' near 'Queen's Beach' at Queen Kapiolani Park (in front of the Honolulu Zoo). Follow the sidewalk into the park. You will pass a restroom on left and you will see a rock jetty to the right. Snorkel along the Waikiki side of the jetty. A variety of fish, lobster, coral, and eels are found in this area. This is a protected reef, so taking marine life is prohibited. It doesn’t get deeper than 6’ for quite a ways out but watch out for the waves as you go further out. Always observe any warnings/cautions posted by lifeguards.

Sharks Cove - popular diving and snorkeling spot when the surf is small

NORTH SHORE SNORKELING has some great spots located all in the same area. Use caution during the winter months, waves can be over 20 feet high in these areas. See descriptions of Waimea Bay, Three Tables, and Sharks Cove below.    Driving instructions: From Waikiki- get on Ala Wai Blvd. turn right on McCully Street and head towards the mountains. After several traffic lights you will cross a bridge, follow the signs to get on H1 westbound. Follow H1 to a junction with Highway 78. Follow Highway 78 to the H2 connection. Follow H2, it will turn into Highway 80. Highway 80 will merge with Highway 99. Follow 99 to a junction with Highway 83, shortly before Haleiwa. Turn right here, to Highway 83. From Haleiwa follow Highway 83 towards Waimea Bay.
WAIMEA BAY has great snorkeling around large rock formations to the left side of the bay. The rocks are shelter for many marine creatures. The ocean is easy to enter and is about 30’ deep around the rocks. The beach is made of powdery white sand. Life guards, bathrooms, showers, telephones, and lunch wagons at the beach park.
THREE TABLES is just around the corner from Waimea Bay as you continue down Highway 83. This snorkel spot is called "Three Tables" because of the three table like rocks in the bay. This spot is less than a quarter of a mile from Waimea Bay on the left side of the road, if you passed the fire station you have gone too far. There are NO: life guards, bath rooms, telephones, or food available at this location.
This activity receives our personal recommendation!SHARKS COVE is just past Three Tables as you continue down Highway 83. This is another great snorkel spot, Sharks Cove. It is a bit tricky getting into the cove but it is worth it. Follow the footpaths from the parking lot. There is a large variety of marine creatures found in this cove, the reef drops to about 25’. As the coves name implies there are some white tipped reef sharks known to call this cove home. They are not aggressive, but do not approach or molest them. They will defend themselves. We have snorkeled here a few times and have never seen any sharks, just lots of fish. Turtles are often seen in the cove. From Waimea Bay- past three tables you will pass a fire station on the left. Past the fire station are tennis courts. Just past the tennis courts is parking for Sharks Cove. The footpaths to get to the cove are to the far right of the beach park area. There are bathrooms and showers in the upper beach park area. There are no life guards on duty.

Waikiki is the best place in the Hawaiian islands to learn to surf and is lots of fun for experienced surfers!

SPORT FISHING: If you’ve dreamed of reeling in the biggest catch of your life the Pacific Ocean is the place to be. We recommend boats that will agree to any request to release billfish and will also allow you to take some of the catch home. The preservation of the Hawaiian fishing grounds is an important concern and fishermen releasing unneeded catch is a part in this preservation. The most popular sport fish caught around the Hawaiian Islands are Pacific Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Bigeye Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Black Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish, Shortbill Spearfish, Pacific Sailfish, Dolphinfish, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna. It is a fact that all fishing places, however fantastic they are, cannot guarantee that you will catch fish. When you charter a boat you are paying for is the opportunity to catch a large fish and the story of a lifetime. The Kona area of the Big Island is known to have the best catch rates in the islands, especially during mating season (April-August). Dress comfortably and prepare for direct sun exposure. There will be a place to retreat from the sun on the boat but don’t neglect the sunscreen! A waterproof spf 30 or better. T-shirts and shorts, a light hat, polarized sunglasses, and deck shoes or sneakers are fine for a day on the water. For most boats you are asked to bring all of your food and drink aboard with you. Canned drinks, and some light snacks and sandwiches are a good idea. All boats will have fresh water, ice, and a way to keep your stuff cold aboard. There is a Hawaiian superstition that absolutely, positively, no bananas go on a fishing trip!  It is considered to be unlucky to have bananas or anything with banana in it on a boat in Hawaii. Ask your skipper more about this Hawaiian kapu.
