ROMANCE IN THE ISLANDS

We don't know if it's the amazing beauty of the islands or the bliss that ultimate relaxation brings, but the islands seem to inspire an almost magical romance in couples who visit. We have compiled unique suggestions for couples who want to enhance the romance during their visit.

2hearts.gif (944 bytes)ROMANTIC ACTIVITY SUGGESTIONS
Romance means different things to different people. We are highlighting activities we consider romantic. If we don't mention something you are interested in please email us and we will find out more information for you.

Romantic activities that can be enjoyed on any of the islands
Walking or hiking through a botanical garden or a tropical rainforest is very peaceful and romantic. Visit our island specific Cultural and Natural History Adventure pages for more details and directions.

Dinner cruises are a perfect way to enjoy a delicious meal then hold each other as you watch the sun set over the horizon. Visit our island specific Evening Activity suggestion pages for activity provider information.

A deserted beach is a very romantic way to enjoy an afternoon together. Molokai and the Big Island have some of the most beautiful beaches which are often found deserted. Each island has miles of beautiful beaches. Take a beach blanket with you when you drive around and keep an eye out for a beach that doesn't have many people or anyone on it.  Please note that nude sun bathing is not permitted by law.

Plan a night of romance in your hotel room. Start by giving your love a beautiful scented lei. A white ginger lei is a great choice to symbolize your pure love, and it smells heavenly!  Order dinner from room service. If you are staying in Waikiki another option is ordering from a restaurant delivery service. There are several available and they offer a wide selection of menu items. (see Oahu Restaurants for more information). Enjoy a slow dance to a beautiful Hawaiian love song playing on the radio. Tune your FM radio to 98.5, 100, or 105.1. To enhance the evenings romance we can help you arrange for any of the following: tropical flowers, chocolate covered strawberries, tropical fruit, wine or champagne, sexy negligee, scented candles. The rest is up to you (wink, wink).

Big Island Romance
Take a romantic, fun, historical tour of Kona on a CARRIAGE RIDE. Hawaiian Dreams Carriages can prepare a picnic for you to enjoy on board OR you can just bring a bottle of wine or champagne, they will supply the glasses.  $45 for a ½ hour tour, $65 for a 45-minute tour, or $85 for a 1-hour tour. The prices are per carriage, which are roomy and hold up to 6 people!! Call  at 808 331-2230 for reservations or information. 24-hour notice needed to arrange for a picnic lunch. Wedding packages are also available.
Kauai Romance
If you are looking for a BEACH GETAWAY SPOT head out to the Princeville Hotel. Just before the Princeville Hotel gate-house turn right. Park along the side of the road. It’s a 10 minute hike to this breathtaking secret hideaway. Located on the North side of the island.

FERN GROTTO is a beautiful fern covered cavern that is accessible  either by kayak or a romantic river boat ride. The Grotto is a popular spot to exchange wedding vows.   Located near Wailua, on the East side of the island. Look for the signs.

Maui Romance
WHALE WATCHING is a great way to snuggle together and be amazed at the beautiful Humpback whales that live in the islands from December to April. The most frequent sightings on Maui are between Makena and Kapalua, along the North-West and South-West sides of the island. We recommend the Pacific Whale Foundation for a closer view by boat. They provide an educational and exciting adventure! The tour is fully narrated by a naturalist. Hydrophones are provided so you can hear the whales communicating with one another. They have 4 boats and offer a total of 15 whale watching cruises each day. The boats range in size to accommodate whatever type of experience you are looking for. Catamaran sails with small groups of up to 20 people. The largest boat accommodates groups up to 120 people. Whale watching on any of their vessels is $32 per person. They offer 2 cruises a day for only $20 per person. Call 808 879-8811 for more information. Dolphins and turtles are also frequently seen on whale watches by boat.

Oahu Romance
The DOLE PINEAPPLE PLANTATION is a fun stop on the circle island tour for couples. There are many great photo opportunities at the Plantation, including a bunch of cut-outs for you to put your face in for funny pictures (like you as a hula girl or a pineapple). There is a gift shop, pineapple gardens, and lots of pineapple goodies for sale. The plantation also has a beautiful  garden maze. It is two acres in size and 1.7 miles of paths snaking through hedges of heliconia, joyweed, panax, plumeria and hibiscus. In the center is a garden shaped like a pineapple. As you enter the maze you clock in and have to find 6 checkpoints to complete the maze and clock out. You might win a prize if you have the best time. The maze is $4.50 per adult.

The WILDTHING REEF ADVENTURES is a great way for you both enjoy a SCUBA divers view together without going below the ocean's surface. You pilot a 10-foot, 8 horsepower glass bottom WildThing and explore Hawaii’s marine life. It is a glass bottom boat built for two. One hour adventures, $39 per person. Call 808 973-9811 for reservations or more information.

The DON HO SHOW  offers a night of romance with a full sit down candle light dinner and a  night of romantic Hawaiian songs that Don made famous like" Tiny Bubbles," and "Pearly Shells". Catch Don’s Aloha Spirit at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. $52 for the diner show. Seating is at 5:30 PM. Main course choices are prime rib, mahi-mahi (fish), or teriyaki chicken. $32 for cocktail show. Seating is at 6:30 PM. The show starts at 7 PM. Call 808 931-3009 for reservations. Discount tickets are available for $36 for two tickets to the cocktail show. Call Magnum Tickets and Tours at 808 923-7825 for more information.

THE OCEANARIUM is an excellent restaurant with a very unique atmosphere. An impressive 3 story, 280,000 gallon sea-water aquarium is along one wall of the Restaurant. Enjoy a scrumptious dinner in a romantic atmosphere while watching the sea life swim by. They serve lunch, dinner, & Sunday brunch. Reservations are a must! Aloha attire is appropriate. The Sunday brunch is amazing and features a wide selection of fresh fruits, salads, breakfast and lunch entrees, and desserts. The menu is a bit pricey but they offer unique dishes and an unbeatable atmosphere. It’s $24 per person for the gourmet, all you can eat, buffet.  Lunches and dinners average $10-$25 per person.   Call 922-1233 for reservations. Located in the Pacific Beach Hotel at 2490 Kalakaua Avenue, in Waikiki. You must request a table next to the tank if you desire one.
TIP: When placing your reservation ask when the diver will feed the fish, then request a reservation about ½ hour prior. This will ensure you get to see the feeding, when the fish are very active.   If anyone dining is celebrating a birthday or anniversary tell the person taking your reservation that you want to request a fish tank sign. The diver will put up a sign in the fish tank near your table to acknowledge the special occasion.

MICHEL'S AT THE COLONY SURF is a wonderful beach front restaurant offering French Continental cuisine and is our favorite restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. The service is first class, the food is scrumptious, and  atmosphere is very romantic. Most tables have a great view of the ocean and if dining during sunset gives diners a front row view of the spectacular color changes when the sun goes down. Although this is a fine dining establishment and the service people all wear tuxedos formal attire is not required for diners and Aloha attire is what most wear. They have a wide range of appetizers and entrees on their menu including fresh local fish as well as a large wine selection. They are known for their amazing soufflé desserts which take over 20 minutes to make and must be ordered at the time of ordering your meal. Meals range between $35-$55 per person and are worth every penny! Michel's is located in Waikiki just past the Waikiki Aquarium in the Colony Surf Hotel at 2895 Kalakaua Avenue. They are only open for dinner. Reservations are suggested and can be by calling 808 923-6552. If someone in your party is celebrating a birthday or anniversary let them know when placing your reservation and they will include a complementary soufflé with your meal.

FREE WEDDING VOW RENEWAL SERVICES ~ for couples already legally married
The Sheraton Moana Surfrider, which is the first hotel built in Waikiki, offers a weekly “Promise Me Again” free group wedding vow renewal ceremony open to hotel guests and the general public. Each spouse receives a fresh flower lei, complements of the hotel, which they present lovingly to one another in emulation of an exchange of wedding bands while the Hawaii Loa Trio performs The Hawaiian Wedding Song.   After reciting vows to one another the couples dance a special dance. At the end of the ceremony each couple is given a complementary keepsake certificate of their vow renewal. The ceremony takes place at 7:30pm each Wednesday evening in the Sheraton Moana Surfrider Banyan Courtyard. Reservations are required by calling 808 922-3111. Validated parking is available across the street at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani with the minimum purchase of one drink.

For guests at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel or Outrigger Waikiki Hotel, both in Waikiki, you can take advantage of their wedding vow renewal service which is only offered free to their guests.
The non-denominational ceremony is very romantic and takes place on the beach at 8am. The ceremony is performed by a Hawaiian priest in the Hawaiian language and includes a water sprinkling blessing of the couple as well as a vow exchange. The couple is given a complementary keepsake copy of the vows in Hawaiian and English. For more information and reservations call the Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel Concierge at 808 921-9747 or Outrigger Waikiki Hotel Concierge at 808 924-6069. Please note this service is only available to registered guests of each hotel and all couples must be already legally married so no marriage license is required.

PLEASE NOTE: Prices for island activities featured within our site are NOT guaranteed. Since we are not affiliated with any of the activity providers we are not notified if services or prices change.
